KATHMANDU, Sept 2: Hindus, especially from the mid and far-Western regions of Nepal celebrated the Gaura Festival today with great joy and enthusiasm.
On the occasion, Hindu women from the region observed fast and paid homage to Lord Shiva or Maheshwor and Goddess Parbati or Gauri and Ganesh as per the Hindu mythology with established rituals.
They also offered worship to Dubo (Bahama grass) during Gaura celebrations with a belief that they will be blessed by children and happy lives.
The festival, one of the greatest festivals of the western Nepal, generally falls in the month of Bhadau in the Lunar calendar.
Deuda (a typical way of singing, dancing and merrymaking on equal footing together) , is major part of Gaura celebrations.
People from the mid and far-west regions and residing in the capital gathered at local Tundikhel on the day of Gaura Festival and enjoy Deuda. Others also joined the celebrations.
The government had announced public holiday today on the occasion of Gaura.
