  Consensus must for people's statute: Sapkota

SINDHUPALCHOK, Dec 12: UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Agni Sapkota on Thursday said his party is pushing hard for political consensus to ensure the people’s constitution with the achievements made so far.

“Consensus is necessary for people’s statute. That is why we have been stressing for consensus,” Sapkota said at a function in the district headquarters of Sindhupalchowk organized in honor of newly elected lawmakers to the new Constituent Assembly today.

Sapkota claimed that a new statute is not possible on the single concept alone. We do not want a constitution for constitution sake. We want a forward-looking constitution that can institutionalize the republic; he said stressing for a political consensus.

He went on to say, “UCPN (Maoist) is committed to promulgate the constitution through the CA. We want to be assured of it. And to materialize it, consensus is a must,” Sapkota clarified, referring to the High Level Political Committee.

He stated that the issue raised by the party is not the concern of the UCPN (Maoist) alone, rather it is the concern of entire marginalized caste and communities, warning a stringent protest ahead unless the demand is underestimated.

The issues related to the election fraud should be sorted out through the formation of an independent probe committee and this is our party’s bottom-line, Sapkota added.

The UCPN (Maoist) is not rigid for a despotic political system nor is it for ethic-based federalism but our concern is to honor those communities who have been oppressed since long with identity, he said.
