JHAPA, March 4: CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said on Monday that they are to find a solution to the ongoing political as well as constitutional deadlock within next two days and the chances of holding elections are improving.
"It is likely that we will reach an agreement tomorrow
[Tuesday] or day after tomorrow," he told UML cadres while addressing the party´s Jhapa district convention on Monday. "After the agreement, the country will head for elections. So you all should remain prepared for the elections."
Khanal, however, was quick to add that the possibility of reaching a deal is not absolutely certain. "But the chances are high," he said.
He also claimed that the new elections would be a chance for the UML to regain its lost strength. "The country faced serious and unncessary crises in the last couple of years because the Maoist party emerged as the largest party from the CA elections," said former prime minister Khanal. "The people have learnt a lesson and the new election will offer an opportunity for the UML to emerge as the largest party."
