REPUBLICA ONLINE

KATHMANDU, Feb 9: Nepal was defeated 1-0 by its South Asian rival Pakistan in its secondly friendly match at Dasharath stadium on Saturday. Muhammad Mujhad scored the lone goal of the match in 65th minute utilizing a defense lapse by the Nepali players.

Nepal which played two friendly matches, widely seen as preparation for upcoming AFC Challenge Cup, against Pakistan wrapped up without scoring a single goal.

Polish coach for Nepal Jack Stefanowski’s ‘experiment’ by debuting fresh faces in the match failed to bear fruit.

Sagar Thapa creates history

National football team skipper Sagar Thapa reached the 50-match milestone for Nepal playing in the second friendly against Pakistan on Saturday. Thapa debuted in the international match replacing Ananta Thapa in the 43rd minute during second leg of Asian Cup Qualifiers against Vietnam in Inchen, South Korea in 2003.

Thapa has led the national team in 27 matches since.
