  Govt collapse soon: Oppn

GOVINDA KC

DAILEKH, Feb 1: Top opposition leaders on Friday claimed that the government would collapse in just a matter of few days.

Dubbing some recent acts by the government as characteristics of an autocratic regime, they claimed that the UCPN (Maoist)´s own deeds would lead to its fall.

“The countdown has begun,” said Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala at a mass meet organized in Dullu of Dailekh district. “The government will soon fall.”

On Friday, hundreds of locals as well cadres of the opposition parties, including NC and CPN (UML), flocked to Patangini of Dullu to join the show of strength against the government. Opposition parties say they chose Dullu for the show of strength as this place "symbolizes" the people´s strength. Eight years ago, the locals, especially women, had revolted against the atrocities of the Maoists and chased them out of Dullu.

Addressing the Dullu mass meet, Koirala said, “The Maoists think they can seize the state powers by threatening the people. But, they are daydreaming. They will ultimately share the fate of the deposed king.”

Koirala also dubbed Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai´s order to shoot at the locals and his interference in the investigation into Dekendra Thapa murder case as undemocratic.

CPN (UML) leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the people are fed up with the government. “The people are sick and tired of the dual attitude of the Maoists,” said Nepal. “Let alone the people, international community also no longer trusts the Maoists.” Nepal said that the people will not have to wait for long to see the government fall.

Nepal also claimed that the government has presented itself as "the savior of the murderers" by directly trying to interfere with the investigation into Thapa´s murder.
Rastriya Janmorcha leader Chitra Bahadur KC, NC leader Gagan Thapa, CPN (UML) leader Thakur Gaire were among other opposition leaders who addressed the Dullu mass meet.
