  Woman returns home after serving jail terms in India

NEPALGUNJ, (Banke), Feb.1: A Nepali woman who was held by Indian Police in possession of hashish has returned after completing a jail term there.

Almost all women arrested in India on the charge of smuggling are serving sentence at the Baharaich Jail based in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the border police beat Jamunaha, Prema Lama, 40, from Dhading district returned home after completing six years and six months in prison in India. The Maiti Nepal, a non-government organization working in the sector of women rights, helped her to contact her family.

At present, around 35 women are passing their days in various prisons in India on the charge of their involvement in the smuggling of drugs, according to women rights activists.

They are believed to be tempted and hired by smugglers to transport contrabands to India.
