KATHMANDU, Jan 30: New Lira School clinched the title of 12th Valley-wide Shito-ryu Karate Championship on Wednesday. New Lira won 4 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze medals to finish ahead of the host Darwin, which finished with 3 gold, 2 silver and 9 bronze medals. Mahankal Dojo secured the third position with 2 golds, 3 silvers and 4 bronzes.
Bauddha Dojo´s Sang Chiring Lama and Manisha Dong were adjudged the best players in the boys´ and girls´ sections respectively. Altogether 253 players had contested for 16 gold medals in the one-day event held in Kathmandu.
Gyan Niketan basketball from Thursday
KATHMANDU: The 11th edition of Gyan Niketan Inter-school Basketball Tournament is all set to kick off on Thursday. The nine-day tournament will be held in league-cum-knockout format, the organizer Gyan Niketan School said at a press conference on Wednesday. The tournament features 16 teams in the senior boys´ section and eight teams each in the senior girls´ and junior boys´ categories. HIMS and Teresa Academy are the defending champions in the senior boys´ and senior girls´ sections respectively.
Hyundai Open to tee off Friday
KATHMANDU: Laxmi Intercontinental Pvt Ltd, the official partner of Hyundai in Nepal, announced to organize the Hyundai Open Golf Championship at the Tribhuvan Army Officers´ Golf Club, Kathmandu on Friday and Saturday.
Organizing a press conference on Wednesday, Laxmi Intercontinental informed that around 80 amateur golfers are expected to participate in the tournament.
According to Laxmi Intercontinental AGM Rupesh Sharma Bhatta, the tournament will be played under the stableford format with ¾ handicap allowances.
According to the Army Club´s teaching pro Ghanashyam Thapa, 30 golfers will tee off on Friday while the rest will compete on Saturday. The championship will feature competitions in men´s, women´s, seniors´ and Hyundai owners´ categories.
