  APF badminton, lawn tennis from Jan 30

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Armed Police Force (APF) has announced to organize its regular calendar tournaments -- 9th Krishna Mohan Memorial Nationwide Open Badminton Tournament and 5th APF Open Lawn Tennis Tournament -- from January 30 at its covered hall in Halchowk, Kathmandu.

The six-day tournaments have established themselves as prestigious tournaments in their respective games.

The badminton tournament that carries a total cash prize of Rs 375,000 will feature competitions in eight categories, said AIG Durja Kumar Rai, the chief of APF Sports Club, during a press meet at the APF headquarters, Halchowk.

The badminton tournament will see competitions in men´s and women´s singles, men´s and women´s doubles, mixed doubles, U-17 boys´ and girls´ singles, veterans´ doubles in 45 and 55 years age category, and civil servants category. Men´s singles winner and runner-up will bag a purse of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively while the losing semifinalists will also be given attractive prizes.

The winner and runner-up of women´s singles will bag Rs 40,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. The men´s doubles winners will get Rs 40,000 while the runner-up pair will receive Rs 20,000. Similarly, the women´s doubles champions and runners-up will receive Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. The winners and runners-up of mixed doubles and U-17 boys´ and girls´ singles will also receive cash prizes.

Similarly, the lawn tennis tournament will carry a total cash prize of Rs 245,000 with the men´s singles winner getting the highest Rs 50,000. The runner-up will get Rs 25,000. The top two finishers of women´s singles will get Rs 40,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.

Along with men´s and women´s singles, the lawn tennis tournament will also see competitions in women´s doubles, mixed doubles, civil servants category and five age group competitions beginning from above 35 years age to above 55 years age category.

The men´s doubles winners will get Rs 40,000 and the runners-up Rs 20,000. The mixed doubles winners and runners-up will get Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
