KATHMANDU, Dec 26: Locals demanding proper compensation to the kin of Aryan Maharjan, 24 of Chapagaun, Lalitpur, who died in a road accident last Saturday, continued their strike for the fourth day on Wednesday bringing normal life in Chapagaun to a complete halt.
According to DSP Puja Singh, spokesperson for Metropolitan Police Range Office Lalitpur, the kin of Maharjan has received his body on Wednesday for cremation after the police assured them of compensation from the bus owner.
Maharjan´s relatives had been refusing to receive the dead body as the bus owner was not ready to compensate them.
Maharjan was the sole bread winner of his family and was looking after his sick mother and a seven-year-old younger brother. Siwa Shah, a resident of Sunakothi, said, "The locals have been suffering because of the strike but the government has turned a blind eye."
However, the police have assured of compensation from the bus owner within seven days. Police said the protesters have demanded Rs 2 million in compensation but the bus owner is ready to pay only Rs 500,000.
