KATHMANDU, Nov. 14: The use of fire crackers was found to have gone down drastically this Tihar festival in compared to the previous years in Kathmandu.

The rate of decline of firing of crackers by the festival revelers was as high as 90 per cent, claimed SSP Jaya Bahadur Chand at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Hanuman Dhoka.

The decline was a result of extensive door-to-door campaigning along with strict checking at the entry routes to the capital, SSP Chand said.

Meanwhile, police have arrested 58 persons on the charge of firing crackers against the law. They were later released following signing of necessary papers.

Police have also claimed of bringing down the number of incidents of theft and hooliganism during this Dashain and Tihar festivals in Kathmandu.
