KATHMANDU, Nov. 13: Various organizations at home and abroad are marking the 104th birth anniversary of Mahakabi Laxmi Prasad Devkota today by conducting different programmes.
Likewise, International Nepali Literary Society, Florida chapter, USA, observed the 104th birth anniversary of Mahakabi.
On the occasion, a literary magazine ´Sagar´ was also released on the occasion. The chapter is publishing the magazine for last seven years on the occasion of Laxmi Jayanti (Birth Anniversary of Devkota).
During the programme, former chairman of chapter Bidhyanath Subedi, litterateur Govinda Giri ´Prerana´, chairman of chapter Krishna Shrestha, RSS USA correspondent Rekha Kusum Regmi and others expressed their opinions on Devkota´s contribution to literary world.
Mahakabi Devkota is the first Nepali litterateur to introduce the Nepali literature in the international level and promoted international literature among the Nepali readers by translating it into the Nepali language.
Devkota´s epics, stories, dramas, songs, criticism, essays and many other literary creations have been published. Devkota´s masterpiece Muna Madan, a short epic narrative, is the bestseller of all Nepali literary pieces and is considered the greatest achievement of Nepali literature.
Devkota´s creations embody romantic, progressive, humanistic and revolutionary characters.
As the Minister for Education and Self-Governance in 2016 B.S, Devkota had arranged compulsory Nepali subject at the school level across the country and played active role for the establishment of Nepal Academy
