KATHMANDU, Nov 12: The government has decided to postpone budget ordinance that it was planning to submit to the president for endorsement on Monday.
The prime minister´s chief political advisor Devendra Poudel, talking to Republica Online, confirmed about the postponement of the ordinance.
The ruling coalition parties on Saturday had decided to send the ordinance to the president amid persistent differences with opposition parties in unveiling new budget.
Poudel said the government has halted the ordinance for now to see if consensus could still be forged among political parties.
Information and Communications Minister Raj Kishor Yadav, who is also government spokesperson, said the ordinance will now submitted after Tihar on November 16.
Earlier today, Finance Minister Barshaman Puan had meet President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and informed him about the government´s plan for budget.
During the meeting, the president is said to have told Pun not to proceed with the ordinance for the time being, saying he is still trying to forge political consensus on it.
President Yadav has called a meeting of major political parties for Tuesday to discuss and forge a common understanding on the new budget.
Meanwhile, a cabinet meeting called for today has been postponed, with the ruling parties pre-occupied with discussions among themselves for consensus.
