KATHMANDU, Nov 11: The First Women´s League Football Tournament will be held in Dhangadhi, Kailali from December 15 to 29. All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), issuing a press statement on Sunday, informed that three departmental teams -- Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police -- and five regional teams would participate in the tournament.
According to ANFA, the tournament will be played in league-cum-knockout format. Participating teams will be divided in two pools and the top two teams from each pool will qualify for the semifinals after the round robin league.
Earlier, ANFA had said that A division clubs would participate in the Women´s League. ANFA CEO Indra Man Tuladhar said that some of the A division clubs had tried to form women´s teams but ANFA was forced to change the league structure as they failed to do so. "Clubs were found reluctant to form women´s teams as they found huge gap between the departmental teams and other teams," said Tuladhar.
ANFA is hopeful that the league will take a proper shape in future, said Tuladhar. "Starting a women´s league is a challenge in itself. We are hopeful that clubs will show interest and form women´s teams in future," said Tuladhar.
