KATHMANDU, Nov 12: The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) is all set to release the final report of National Census 2011 right after Tihar. According to the preliminary report of the 11th census held from August 24 - September 2, Nepal´s current population stands at 26,620,809.
According to CBS officials, data tabulation and data editing has been completed this week. The companies, which were contracted for data processing nine months ago, submitted the data to CBS for final analysis two months ago.
“All preparations are over, we will release the final report after the Tihar vacation,” said Rudra Suwal, chief of the population department at CBS. Though CBS had initially planned to award the data processing contract to an international company, CBS later awarded the Rs 20 million-contract to two national companies.
“We will carry out an in-depth analysis of all the findings. We will also be organizing a one-day interaction with various stakeholders for the feedback,” he informed.
Suwal informed that around 400 statisticians were temporarily hired for the data processing and coding. Maintaining confidentiality of the data was a challenge for the CBS, thus, technicians were not allowed to take their personal pen, pen drives, mobile phone, camera or any other electronic device with them to the office.
For the first time in its 100 years history, CBS has incorporated data of physically and mentally challenged and sexual minorities in the report. The population of livestock will also be included in the final report.
