  Major parties' meet cancelled

REPUBLICA ONLINE

KATHMANDU, Nov 11: The meeting of top brass leaders of UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML along with United Democratic Madhesi Front called for Sunday evening could not take place after the opposition parties refused to take part in the meeting.

The meeting was called by the ruling UCPN (Maoist) to discuss new budget that the government is planning to introduce through ordinance. Sources at Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal´s residence in Lazimpat informed about the cancellation of the meeting.

Earlier in the morning, former finance ministers had met up with Dahal and strongly advised him to bring new budget only after forging consensus among political parties.

A day earlier, a meeting of the ruling parties had decided to hold talks with opposition parties as their final bid for consensus. It had also decided to bring new budget unilaterally in the event of failure to reaching any understanding on full budget.
