  Govt to provide subsidy up to 50% on agro seeds purchase

KATHMANDU, Nov. 10: The government has decided to provide subsidy in the purchase of different 10 agro seeds.

The decision to this end was taken as per the government policy of giving subsidy on the purchase of high-yield seeds for the development of agricultural sector, said Spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture Development, Dr Prabhakar Pathak. The Ministry has been working on the necessary process to implement the decision, he said.

According to Dr Pathak, this year farmers will get subsidies to the tune of Rs. 80 million on the purchase of high-yielding seeds.

Agriculture production is expected to increase by 40 percent with the use of high-yielding seeds, he said. Farmers will get subsidy ranging from 25 percent to 50 percent on the purchase of seeds of rice, wheat, maize, millet, pea, mustard, lentil, pigeon pea, gram and moong, he said.

Priority will be given to domestic seeds instead of imported seeds while providing subsidy, it is learnt
