POKHARA, Nov 11: The minor girl who was allegedly sexually abused at the hands of former UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Safik Miyan, was abducted on Thursday night.
At a time when police are already searching for absconding ex-lawmaker Miyan, who also faces a charge of selling his wife´s land without her knowledge, a report has been lodged at the district police office on the girl´s abduction.
The girl´s mother reported to police on Friday that her daughter had been abducted. Police suspect Miyan´s hand in the abduction.
The abducted girl´s mother wanted to categorically name three people along with Miyan´s wife Zubeda, for involvement in the abduction. However, she has not named anyone as the police asked her to file her report based on facts and not get carried away by other´s claims.
According to police, the abducted girl, who is from a poor family, has been the sole victim in a Miyan family dispute, with the opposing sides using her for their own ends.
“We suggested to the girl´s mother to lodge her report on the basis of factual evidence and not to be prompted by false suggestions. Afterwards, she submitted her complaint simply asking the police to search for her daughter, without naming anybody,” said district police spokesperson Rabindra Poudel.
According to Poudel, Police intensified the search for the girl immediately after receiving the complaint. She was staying at her sister´s house in Lekhanath and was abducted while coming outside to go to the toilet on Thursday night.
In the family dispute, Miyan has complained to his party that Zubeda was having illicit relations with a district level leader of the party. But Zubeda claimed that Miyan had been sexually abusing the minor girl, who was working as a domestic help, for over a year.
The girl, who was rescued in a police raid at Miyan´s quarters, disclosed while recording her statement with police that she was sexually exploited by Miyan. The girl´s claim was borne out by a medical checkup.
“The person who logged a complaint against his wife at the party is on the run after his own criminal activities came to the fore. It suggests that Miyan is trying other illegal means to clear himself,” said a police officer. “He might have taken the girl, who has been a witness again him, under his control to manipulate her and use her against his wife,” he further said.
The UCPN(Maoist) Kaski chapter has expelled Miyan from the party. Miyan had also informed that his wife had cancer and needed to be taken abroad for treatment. Later, his claim about his wife´s cancer proved false.
