Psychological counseling for Singhadurbar bureaucrats
KATHMANDU, Nov 10: In an attempt to bring effectiveness in service delivery and boost productivity, the government has decided to provide weekly psychological counseling to all bureaucrats working in Singhadurbar.
The government says that employees will get general health check-up and psychological counseling at their work place every Friday.
Doctors and psychologist at Civil Hospital will provide the counseling to bureaucrats. The hospital authority said that it has hired psychologist and psychiatric on part-time basis to provide the service to the employees.
"Our doctors and psychologist will provide stress management training and general health check up to the employees in Singhadurbar," Dr Bimal Thapa, Director of the hospital, said. The hospital has organized health camp at Singhadurbar on Friday, where 65 bureaucrats including Chief Secretary Lilamani Poudel received the services.
According to Dr Thapa, about half of employees who received health checks had high blood pressure. The doctors have invited the employees with health complication for thorough examination in the hospital. He said that most of the employees were unaware about hypertension and healthy behavior.
Chief Secretary Poudel asked employees to take the benefits from the health camp. Poudel hoped that psychological counseling to employees will boost overall productivity. "As per the nature of work and work load, some kind of frustration develop in the employees, " he said, adding, "To bring efficiency by making them more energetic and devoted to their job, refreshment programs like counseling, yoga and meditation will be beneficial."
He also said that as per the nature of work and eating habits, employees were gaining weight and suffering from several health complications.
Chief Secretary Poudel also said providing psychological counseling to the employees was a global trend and several researches have shown that such measures had brought positive change in productivity.
