KATHMANDU, Nov 9: The Himalayan Times daily is organizing ´International Food Festival´ at Gokarna Forest Resort on Saturday, a press statement said. The daylong event is targeted to all the food lovers in and around Kathamndu, the daily said in a statement. The event will feature about 60 dishes from 16 countries.
Along with the food stalls, the event will also features live concerts, fun-filled games like Tail the Donkey, Hit the Can and Mini Soccer, among others. “For the visitors´ convenience, free shuttle service from Nepal Airlines building to Gokarna has been arranged,” the statement added.
KL Tower introduces ´Shwopping´
KATHMANDU: K L Tower at Chuchhepati-- the valley´s newest shopping mall has introduced a new way of shopping called ´Shwopping´--with the theme ´light up a soul this festive season´. According to a press statement issued by the company, under this scheme customers can swap their old clothes, shoes and toys and avail a special ´Shwop´ discount. "Our old clothes, shoes and toys are either thrown away or rot in our store rooms. But now you can swap your old things at K L Tower and get special Shwop discount said the statement," the company said in a statement.
With every purchase, customers can get a lucky draw coupon through which they can win ´Shwop & Shop Prizes´ like Mahindra Rodeo Scooter, Sharp 40-inch LED TV, Sharp washing machine, 10 consolation gift vouchers worth Rs 5,000 each, among others. The company plans to distribute ´showpped´ items among the needy through charity associations. "To make this Tihar even more memorable, there would be events like live concert by renowned artists, belly dance and salsa dance, B-Boying, comedy, kid´s entertainment etc inside the mall," added the statement.
NT launches EVDO service in Bhairahawa
KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecom (NT) has launched Sky Pro -- a CDMA based 3G EVDO service (Evolution Data Optimized) -- in Bhairahawa, a company statement said on Friday. The service is already available in Kathmandu, Banepa, Birgunj, Chitwan and Pokhara. Speaking at the launching ceremony in Bhairahawa, Anoop Ranjan Bhattarai, deputy managing director of NT, said the company was planning to launch the service in all major cities of Nepal by the end of the current fiscal year. NT has started the distribution of this service from its offices in Bhairahawa, Butwal and Palpa.
In order to avail the service, customers will have to purchase RUIM card worth Rs 200. Likewise, the handest of Alcatel and Samsung which supports the service is also avaialbe in the premises of Nepal Telecom. “The bundling service that includes the handset, RUIM card and balance of Rs 200 every month for a year is available at Rs 13,500,” the statement added.
TCL chest freezers in market
KATHMANDU: Elements of Life (EOL), a sister concern of CG Electronics, has launched TCL chest freezers for the first time in the Nepali market. According to a press statement issued by the company, TCL chest freezer has modern features like quick and deep freezing, mechanical temperature control with the power indicator, quality A-ally embossed inner container, defrost scrapper, clean back, water disposal device and castors for easy movement. In addition to these features, there is lock and key for child safety. There are six models available in the market: TCF-15Q, TCF-20Q, TCF-30Q, TCF-40Q, TCF-50Q in Hard Top design category which is available in the range of Rs 22,790 to Rs 48,390 and TCF20QFG in the category of Hard Top Flat Glass Door which is priced at Rs 29,090, said the statement. The freezers has capacity ranging from 115 liters to 500 liters. TCL chest freezers come with one year warranty. EOL has service centers throughout the country.
Siddhartha, Public enter merger deal
KATHMANDU: Siddhartha Development Bank of Kathmandu and Public Development Bank of Birgunj have entered into a merger deal. A memorandum of understanding, in this regard, was signed by Siddhartha Development Bank Chairman Shekhar Aryal and Public Development Bank Chairman Madan Prasad Adhikari on Thursday. "The two banks on Friday submitted an application at Nepal Rastra Bank to formally launch the merger process and requested Nepal Stock Exchange to halt their share transactions until the consolidation process is complete," says a joint statement issued by the banks.
Civil Bank opens two branch offices
KATHMANDU: Civil Bank on Thursday opened branch offices in Bijuwar of Pyuthan and Phidim of Paanchthar. Civil is the first bank to open an office in Bijuwar, says a bank statement. "The branches were opened with an aim of providing modern banking services to local entrepreneurs, businesspeople and the public," the statement quotes Civil Bank CEO Kishore Maharjan as saying. The bank is opening three more offices in Butwal, Birtamod and Nepalgunj by mid-December.
United Finance to give 10% cash dividend
KATHMANDU: United Finance Limited is all set to extend 10 percent cash dividend from profit generated in the last fiscal year, according to a company statement. The decision was approved by the 18th annual general meeting of the bank held on Wednesday. The finance company, promoted by Chaudhary Group and Morang Auto Works, among others, generated a net profit of 37.99 million in 12 months to 15 July. The company, which has a paid-up capital of Rs 350.80 million, collected Rs 2.60 billion in deposits and extended Rs 2.08 billion in loans till the end of last fiscal year.
Samsara, ID Bank sign remittance pact
KATHMANDU: Samsara Money Transfer and Infrastructure Development Bank have entered into an agreement to facilitate remittance delivery. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Jeewan Babu Shrestha, executive vice chairman of Samsara Money Transfer, and ID Bank´s Chief Business Officer Ramnath Gautam on Thursday, according to a statement issued by Samsara. Under the agreement, the remittance forwarded through Samsara Money Transfer from around the globe can be easily received from any of the 13 branches of ID Bank and more than 1,500 agent locations spread across Nepal. Samsara is the super-agent of multinational brands like Moneygram, Xpress Money Services, Instant Cash and U-Remit while its has its own set up in countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, New Zealand and 32 other countries.
