Three banks, Indian Embassy reach semis

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Nov 8: NMB Bank set up a semifinal clash with the Embassy of India in the 14th Soaltee Crowne Plaza Super Sixes, while Century Bank set a meeting with Nepal Bank Ltd.

NMB defeated Citizens Bank by 15 runs in the first quarterfinal of the tournament on Thursday at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur. NMB elected to bat and scored 66/3 in five overs as Vishnu Paudel scored unbeaten 31 runs and Ravindra Chand added 24 runs. In reply, Citizens reached only 51/3 in five overs.

Meanwhile, Embassy of India, which has crushed Sanima Bank by six wickets in the pre-quarterfinal round on the Thursday morning, edged past Bank of Asia Nepal by nine runs in the evening. Electing to field, Bank of Asia restricted Embassy of India to 67/3 in five overs. However, Bank of Asia fell nine-run short while chasing. Virendra Kumar scored unbeaten 32 runs for the Embassy while Diwash Singh Thakuri struck unbeaten 33 runs for Bank of Asia.

Suvash Sharma of Standard Chartered Bank was bowled out by Bikash Shrestha of Century Bank.

Likewise, Century Bank thumped Standard Chartered Bank by five wickets. Electing to field, Century restricted Standard Chartered at 61/2 in five overs and successfully chased the total in 4.4 overs losing only one wicket. Sakar Lal Shrestha contributed 28 runs for the winning side while Abhaya Rana scored unbeaten 26 runs.

Nepal Bank Ltd defeated Kantipur Media Group by 29 runs to secure semifinal berth. Nepal Bank put up 84/4 in five overs and restricted Kantipur to 55/5 in five overs. Shanta Bahadur Shah contributed unbeaten 43 runs off 12 balls while Samir Giri added unbeaten 31 runs for Nepal Bank.

As the tournament has a provision of compulsory retirement for batsman after scoring 31 runs but gets a chance to return as the last wicket on the crease, Shah retired once but came back to make the highest score of the six-a-side cricket tournament. Giri took two wickets to restrict Kantipur and seal the victory for Nepal Bank.

The tournament will conclude on Friday.
