REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Nov 4: UCPN (Maoist) spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota warned President Ram Baran Yadav on Sunday not to go beyond his ceremonial position and said that he would face the fate of former King Gyanedra if he tried to become active politically.

Comparing the president´s activities with that of former king Gyanendra, Sapkota also claimed that President Yadav´s activities suggest a conspiracy for coup.

"The president´s activities are similar to that of the former king Gyanendra. If he engaged in such activities overstepping his constitutional position, he will face the fate of the former king," said Sapkota, speaking with journalists at the weekly regular meeting at his party headquarters Perisdanda.

Sapkota was referring to the recent meetings called by the president asking party leaders and other stakeholders to expedite efforts to arrive at consensus.
The ruling parties are not happy with the president as he has been rejecting various ordinances forwarded by the government.

Sapkota´s warning comes at a time when the government is all set to bring the upcoming budget through ordinance, which requires the approval of the president.

According to Sapkota, the government is determined to bring a full budget at any cost. He also claimed that his party will mobilize people if parties failed to reach a consensus for a full budget.

"We are holding discussions with the political parties. If we do not reach a consensus for a full budget, we will mobilize the masses," Sapkota added. He cautioned the political parties and the president not to take his party´s flexibility as its weakness.
