REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Nov 4: Police on Sunday nabbed Dhirendra Panta of Pepsicola Kathmandu, allegedly for carrying 68 packets of firecrackers to sell it during the Tihar festival.

According to the Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu, police seized the firecrackers from Panta during regular checks in ´suspicious areas´. Investigation is underway and will be charged under the explosive ac, the police said.

The government has banned the use of firecrackers to avoid any mishaps during Tihar celebrations. Police has also organized awareness programs to control accidents arising out of firecrackers, according to DSP Dhiraj Pratap Singh, the spokesperson of Metropolitan Police Kathmandu.

The ban imposes restrictions on import, trading and use of fireworks, fire-crackers and sparklers during the five-day festival which begins on November 12, DSP Singh said.

Police have also asked guardians to ensure their children stay away from fireworks adding those found violating the ban will face punishment according to explosive acts.
