KATHMANDU, Oct 27: Arranged marriage might sound old dated but people still follow it, whether one wants to believe it or not. It’s freaky to just know that one would want to get married to a total stranger, without knowing his/her likes and dislikes and, actually spending time with them. But, for some, it just clicks and life after marriage might just turn out to be the most beautiful time of their lives. But would you opt to get married the arranged style? We asked the question on our Facebook and this is what we got!
Pujan Rijal, on our Facebook page, said, “I would not hurt my parents by being rude in the heat of the moment but I would, instead, try to convince them. I´m sure my parents would understand my sentiments the way they´ve always done. I´ve seen my parents being happy at times when they see me smiling. The day I´d tie the knot with someone I am not familiar with would be the unhappiest moment of my life and I’m sure that my parents will never do that to me. After all, I have one life and my parents would never do anything that would switch my ‘happy and happening’ life mode to a sad one.”
Convincing parents might seem ideal and ‘the thing’ to do when it comes to getting married, arranged or love.
Yogesh Kumar Prasai said that he would try and pursue his parents too. “My parents can´t and will not force me to marry someone I don’t know. Instead, I think, they’ll be happy to see me happy and it won’t matter who I get married to. They know that it´s my life and I have the right to live it on my own terms. But yes, I´ll always make sure that my parents are happy with my decision.”
Convincing parents would, certainly, be the first thing to do but what if they don’t agree?
Preeti Karna said that she would opt to talk to parents first but she has a second option too. “If I love someone and my parents want me to get married to some stranger, I would definitely talk to them first. If they don’t agree because of caste or family background of the person I love, I would choose him, if he agrees to hold my hand forever,” she says. She further adds that if her love doesn’t want to take things further, she would do what her parents tell her to do.
Kurtyel Nirmal, on the other hand, jokingly we hope, said that the day of his marriage would be the day he would divorce, if he got arranged with someone.
