  Nepal women lose opener

KATHMANDU, Oct 25: Nepal lost to Sri Lanka by 20 runs in its opening match of ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup tournament being held in Guangzhou, China, on Thursday.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first at Guanggong International Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka scored 78/8 in 20 overs. In reply, Nepal could manage only 58/9 in 20 overs, with none of Nepali batswomen being able to score in double figures.

Sita Rana Magar´s nine runs was the highest individual score by any Nepali batswoman. She hit one four, the only boundary, in Nepali innings. Nepal got its highest 12 as extra runs.

Roshani Bohara (1), Sarita Magar (5), Nary Thapa (6), Karuna Bhandari (5), Neera Rajopadhyay (7), Rubina Chhetri (1),Sonu Khadka (4), Rashmi Chaulagain (2), Indu Barma (5) and Mamata Thapa (1) were the other contributors to the Nepali total.

Sri Lankan skipper Shashikala Siriwardene and S Dolawatte took two wickets each. The duo had also contributed with the bat, with Siriwardene top scoring with 23 and Dolwatte making 11 for Sri Lanka. M Surangika had chipped in with a handy 15.

Three Nepali batswomen were run out, while the remaining one wicket was taken by Prabodhani.

Earlier on, for Nepal, captain Rubina Chhetri grabbed four wickets, conceding only seven runs off her four overs. Sonu Khadka picked two wickets.

Likewise, Nary Thapa and Karuna Bhandari took one wicket apiece. Nepal conceded six runs as extras.

Nepal is in Group B along with host China, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the seven-nation tournament. Nepal will  next play Bangladesh on Friday.
