KATHMANDU, Oct 10: The ´living martyr´ of the anti-Rana movement, Ram Hari Sharma passed away at 9:00 Wednesday morning. Sharma was 96.
The family source said that Sharma was admitted to the Blue Cross Hospital, Tripureshwor, on Tuesday after he complained of low blood pressure and respiratory related problems.
Sharma and some other youth leaders of the time were arrested on the charge of distributing anti-Rana pamphlets to make people aware. However, for being from the Brahmin community, Sharma was not given the death penalty by the Rana rulers. Sharma was sent to Bhadragol Jail under tight security instead.
Sharma´s personal secretary Bishnu Nepal said that the last rites of Sharma would be performed at Pashupati Aryaghat today.
Late Sharma is survived two sons and five daughters.
