  New guideline for schools unveiled

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Oct 6: The Private and Boarding School Guideline 2012 unveiled on Friday has made it mandatory for schools to construct earthquake resistant buildings.

School buildings would now have to be approved by the Urban Development and Building Construction Office.

The guideline was prepared by a nine-member committee led by director at the Department of Education Tek Narayan Pandey. Each classroom must have the capacity to accommodate at least 33 students as per the new guideline.

The guideline also restricts schools from using rickshaws to transport students. The DoE and the District Education Offices will monitor implementation of the guideline.
