Ex-secy Pokharel sentenced to 18 months in prison for graft

KATHMANDU, Oct 4: The Special Court (SC) on Thursday sentenced former home secretary Padma Prasad Pokharel to 18 months in prison and slaps Rs 5.85 million fine on him for corruption.
A division bench of Justices Gauri Bahadur Karki, Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Prasad Chalise issued the order in response to a complaint filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
In its May 11 petition, the anti-graft body had sought Rs 1, 51, 38, 898 in fine from Pokharel, accusing him of accumulating personal assets by abusing power while he held public office.
