  Police floats security plans for festive season

KATHMANDU, Oct 2: Government and police officials have asked the people to be assured about the security situation during the upcoming festive season in Kathamandu.

With the mission to curb crime and stop black market during the festival season, Metropolitan Police Range Office Kathmandu in collaboration with District Administration Office announce one and half month Dashain and Tihar Security Plan effective from Oct 1.

In a press meet organized at Metropolitan Police Range Hanuman Dhoka on Monday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jaya Bahadur Chand, Chief of Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu said, “Probability of increased in crime rates and black marketeering is always high during festive season, but we are ready to deal with them as per the expectation of the people.”

Easy purchase of bus and air tickets, regulating overloaded passengers vehicles, control on robbery, pick pocketing and snatching, easy access to pilgrimage sites, protection of people from being cheated in the name of lottery and bumper prizes are some of the core areas that police is focusing on according to SSP Chand. “We are also serious about illegal import and use of firecrackers and gambling,” he added.

According to the security plans, police plan to deploy more security forces and vehicle to patrol different bus parks, shopping complexes, financial institutions, ATM stations and jewelry shops to check possible crime. At least 3,200 police, 42 CRV vehicles, 24 mobile vans will be deployed around the clock.

Chief District Officer (CDO) Chudamani Sharma has asked the people to report to the police any information on black marketing. He also informed that over 30 cases of adulteration and black marketing were under investigation. Police have also formed two command posts to monitor, supervise and direct officers under the leadership of Chief District Officer (CDO) and Assistant CDO respectively.
