UDAYPUR, Sept 26: Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday stressed that political parties should go for the reinstatement of Constituent Assembly (CA) for a brief period in the present scenario.
“Even though fresh polls are the only way out from the crisis, the new elections cannot take place unless the constitution is amended,” Deuba argued, “and therefore, the CA should be revived to amend the constitution.”
Stating that his party is not anti-federalist, Deuba claimed that the parties have already agreed on a 11-province model, which he said would address concerns of all parties. “But NC does not agree on the federal model and the type of constitution the Maoists want.”
Deuba also said the parties have to initiate protest program to oust the Baburam Bhattarai-led government. “ (Ousting) this government is not a big deal when we have already removed the Ranas and the king from power through popular protests,” he said.
He further said NC would name the candidate for the next prime minister from the party in half an hour once the current government steps down.
