KATHMANDU, Sept 25: GP Koirala Foundation for Democracy, Peace and Development felicitated all the members of Nepali national cricket team on Tuesday for clinching the World Cricket League Division 4 title.
Nepali national cricket team had secured promotion to Division 3 and had defeated the USA in the final of the tournament on September 10 in Malaysia.
Nepali Congress leader Sujata Koirala, who is also the president of the foundation, handed over Rs 50,000 worth of check to captain Paras Khadka as a reward for the whole team.
Speaking at the felicitation function, captain Khadka said Nepali team has a dream to play World Cup sooner than later but it is possible only if the concerned authorities lend support.
The foundation President Koirala said that her organization would help chip in for the development of sports sector. The NC leader also said that the sports sector should not be politicized. "Political parties should stop politicizing sports sector. We should rather concentrate on the development of the sector in such a way that we can bring home Olympics medals," said Koirala. "GP Koirala Foundation is ready to support Nepali athletes and sports sector," she added.
National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama asked political parties to facilitate allocation of more budget for the sports sector.
The foundation is established in the memory of late Girija Prasad Koirala.
