KATHMANDU, Sept 25: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday issued an interim order against the government, ordering it not to carry out any activities except for clearing hurdles in relation to implementation of Nepal Vehicle Emission Standards (NVES) 2012, standards equivalent to Euro III for control of air pollution.
A division bench of justices Girish Chandra Lal and Gyanendra Bahadur Karki issued the order, acting on the writ petition filed by Jivan Kumar Pokhrel on September 6.
The bench has also ordered not to get involved in any activities that are against the implementation of NVS and other air pollution control provisions undertaken by the government.
Last month, the Ministry of Environment (MoE) had unveiled the NVES 2012 that also aimed at gradually phasing out Euro I and II standard vehicles to control air pollution.
