POKHARA, Sept 25: Locals of Pokhara have closed the Bachchibuduva landfill site after the sub-metropolitan office failed to release Rs 1.5 million allocated to blacktop the road near the landfill site.
The landfill site has been closed since last Sunday due to which garbage are piling on the roadsides.
The trucks were forced to return without dumping the garbages after the irate locals padlocked the main gate of the landfill site on Sunday morning.
Earlier, the Nirmal Pokhari and Bharat Pokhari locals had given ten days ultimatum to the Pokhara sub-metropolitan office to release the amount. "The sub-metropolitan office failed to release the amount on the 11th day of the ultimatum forcing us to take this drastic step," said Dhruba Rayamajhi, chairman of the road users committee.
Meanwhile, the sub-metropolitan office has urged the locals to come for dialogues to resolve the matter.
At least 90 tons of garbage is collected in Pokhara everyday.
