  1,402 combatants get through medical test

CHITWAN, Sept 23: Out of 1,445 former Maoist combatants who passed written examinations to be inducted into the national army, 1,402 hve made it through the medical tests also.

According to Nepal Army Spokesperson Ramindra Chhetri, only those who passed the medical tests are eligible for the next stage of integration.

The Special Committee formed to oversee integration and rehabilitation of former Maoist combatants says 43 former Maoist combatants failed the medial tests while six others were absent.

Seventy-five combatants have made it through the written exams for officer level integration while 10 have failed. Earlier, 1,445 former combatants passed the written exams for integration in the Nepal Army.

Twelve combatants from Chitwan-based Third Division cantonment and one from Ilam-based First Division cantonment failed to meet the medical requirements. In the Fourth Division Cantonment at Nawalparasi, 263 combatants passed the tests while nine failed to proceed to the next step.

Similarly, six failed and 192 passed from the Fifth Division in Rolpa. Twelve combatants in the Sixth Division Cantonment in Surkhet failed while all the combatants in the Seventh Division Cantonment in Kailali passed the medical tests.

According to a NA source, oral exams for those passing the medical tests have already began. Coordinator of the Special committee, Balananda Sharma, said the final result of the medical tests will be published on September 29 and the committee will expedite the distribution of checks to former combatants failing to meet the NA selection criteria so far.

Combatants vying for officer level integration were asked questions from textbooks upto SLC level while combatants appearing in exams for junior level NA positions were asked question from grade 7 textbooks.
