  Student unions announce protests against price hikes  
 

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Sept 21: Eleven student organizations associated with the opposition parties have decided to launch a weeklong protest against price hikes of essentials, hoarding, load-shedding and anarchy in the academic sector.

A meeting of the student organizations held at the central office of Nepal Students´ Union (NSU) at Putali Sadak on Friday took the decision. The meeting has also decided to support to the ongoing protests by women´s organizations of various political parties against price hikes.

According to a press statement issued after the meeting, the students´ organizations have decided to submit a memorandum to Tribhuvan University on Sunday, hoist black flags at all government colleges across the country against hike of college fees on Monday, stage sit-in in front of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) from 1 pm to 2 pm on Tuesday and organize corner meetings across the country including in Kathmandu Valley at 3 pm, Wednesday.

NSU acting president Lekhanath Pokharel, All Nepal National Free Students Union chairman Madhav Dhungel, Sharad Rasaili of Mohan Baidya-led All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary), Rabindra Jyaakhwa of Nepal Revolutionary Students Union, Ghanashyam Neupane of ANNFSU (Sixth), Binod Acharya of ANNFSU (Fifth), Prem Balayar of National Democratic Students Union and Santosh Bista of Revolutionary Students´ Union-Nepal were present at the meeting.

Likewise, the students´ organizations have decided to hold publicity campaign on Thursday to garner public support for their protest. They will also hold protest rallies across the country Friday.
