  3,000 climbers visited Nepal this year

KATHMANDU, Sept 21: A total of 3,005 foreign climbers came to Nepal in the spring of 2012 for climbing Mt. Everest and other peaks.

Of them, some 400 were successful in climbing Mt. Everest, said the Asia Trekking. This year, there were 208 new climbers and 165 climbers climbed from Tibet side, said Asian Trekking Chairman Ang Chhiring Sherpa.

Some 519 foreign expeditions had taken permit for climbing 33 peaks of height 5,587 m- 6,654 m managed by Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), and 2,225 climbed the peaks successfully, the Asian Trekking said.

Some 40 percent foreign tourists come to Nepal for entertainment in mountaineering, trekking and adventure sports.
