Bridge at Nawalparashi East West highway damaged

RAMESH KUMAR POUDEL

CHITWAN, Sept 17: Vehicular movement across a bridge on Lokaha Khola (river) in Nawalparasi on the East-West highway has been obstructed after severe structural damage to a bridge.

Vehicle operation on the bridge was made one way six months ago after noticing feeble condition of the bridge.

"The bridge had been weakened after it was hit by a truck last April, and the cracks appeared on the bridge from the same location which had been weakened," said Dhani Ram Chaudhary, Engineer at DRO.

Dhani informed that they had ordered a new plank to replace the damaged one on the bridge from the United Kingdom.

According to police, they were planning to open up diversion for two way traffic and were awaiting technicians from Butwal Division Road Office to arrive.

“Now we are trying to regulate the vehicle circulation through diversions. We will again launch meticulous inspection on the over all condition of the bridge,” said Chaudhary.
