No night bus services on Karnali Highway

REPUBLICA

SURKHET, Sept 16: The government has asked Transport Management Office in the mid-western region to stop all bus services from operating night buses on the Karnali Highway.

The decision to stop night bus services was made during an official meeting at Mid-Western Regional Office in Nepalgunj on Friday.

Chief Secretary Lila Mani Poudel and mid-western Regional Administrator Fulgain Pradhan had personally recommended the ban citing increasing number of road mishaps along various sections of Karnali Highway. In the past week alone, 30 people have died in two separate road accidents along the highway.

Pradhan has also ordered transport management office to step up the inspection of buses to deter them from carrying passengers and loads more than their capacity.

“Whoever disregards this order will be arrested immediately,” said Poudel, adding, “Overloaded buses and drink driving would be strictly dealt with.”
