KATHMANDU, Sept 14: Stalls of Internet service providers (ISPs), Anti-Virus retailers, web page designer, network Solution providers, and web and mobile application developers were the major crowd-pullers on Friday -- the second day of InfoDevelopers CAN SofTech 2012 on Friday.
WebSurfer - a broadband service provider -- has unveiled its special scheme at the event. Under the scheme, customers can enjoy 10 percent discount on monthly charge and free installation worth Rs 3,000 for subscribing one year service plan.
Manika Maharjan of WebSurfer said a lot of customers were booking the package. “Visitors are also enquiring about the technology and price of the service,” added she.
WebSurfer provides wireless DSL service up to 384 kbps speed.
Likewise, Subisu Cable Net is offering 512 kbps internet with TV channels over same cable at Rs 899 per month. It is offering different Internet packages with speed ranging from 128 kbps to 1 mbps.
Another ISP Vianet is also offering a package of Broadband Internet up to 1 mbps, web design with Content Management System and free 200 MB web space for a year at Rs 15,000. “We are offering fiber optics Internet, which is the fastest and the most reliable connection compared to other technology,” said Rajeeb Shakya of Vianet. He said the company introduced flexible plans to suit the need of different kind of users.
Besides Internet service providers, stalls of companies dealing on anti-virus and Internet security also remained busy throughout the day.
McAfee is giving away free pen drive of 4 GB on the purchase of anti-virus for one user and pen drive of 8 GB on the purchase of anti-virus for three users.
Ananda Maharjan, managing director of Itech Office Support - the authorized distributor of eScan anti-virus and content security, said their main target was on making customers familiar with their products rater than on sales. “We are hopeful that our scheme will attract visitors and will help us in establish our brand in Nepal,” he said.
Itech is offering one user Internet security, which costs 1,200, at Rs 750. The offer is also available on eScan anti-virus.
Computer Association Nepal (CAN) is organizing the event from the last five years with the objective of providing a platform for software developers and informing people regarding latest development in software solution and services. The four-day event will continue till Sunday.
´Lack of proper policy hits investment opportunities in ICT´
ICT experts have pointed out data entry, call centre, medical transcription, and tele-medicine, among others as lucrative segment in ICT for investment.
There is a huge possibility of ICT related business in the country despite power cuts and problems related to policy, speakers said at a workshop titled ´Investment opportunities in ICT´ on Friday.
Presenting his working paper, Biplav Man Singh said knowledge process outsourcing, legal process outsourcing and cloud computing were the potential segments for investment. “The major challenge is the lack of proper policy,” he said.
Bishow Ram Balami, coordinator of the event, said ICT sector was a lucrative sector from investment point of view and has a possibility to generate highest profit compared to any other sectors.
Suresh K Karna, president of CAN stressed the need to developing entrepreneurship. He further said many projects were on hold in the lack of effective policy and the government´s willpower to implement them.
“The opportunities in mobile application development are increasing with healthy growth of mobile users in the country,” he said.
Participants of the workshop also held an interaction with IT experts, entrepreneurs and journalists.
