KATHMANDU, Sept 13: Nepal ´A´ advanced into the semifinals of the First South Asian Sepak Takraw Championship which kicked off at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu on Thursday.
Nepal ´A´ defeated Pakistan, Nepal ´C´ and Bangladesh on the opening day with identical score of 3-0 in all three matches en route to the semifinals from Group B.
India and Nepal ´B´ also secured their places in the semifinals as the winner and runner-up of Group A respectively. Nepal ´B´ will now lock horns with its fellow ´A´ team in the semifinals of the tournament organized by Nepal Sepak Takraw Association.
India had defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 and Nepal ´B´ 3-1 to finish first in the group while Nepal was on the heels of India after its 3-0 win over Sri Lanka.
Altogether seven teams - three from Nepal and one each from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka - are competing in the championship for golds in three different categories.
New Zenith, Wilson and Innovative into quarters
KATHMANDU: New Zenith, Wilson Academy and Innovative School advanced into the quarterfinals of the ongoing Valley View Inter School Basketball Championship on Thursday. New Zenith defeated Rato Bangala 66-35 riding on 14 points from Chewang Tamang in the matches held on the court of host Valley View School, New Baneshwar.
Likewise, Ajay Kunwar top-scored 28 points as Innovative saw off New Summit 63-42 while Wilson beat Riveria 33-12 as Sunil Khatri scored nine points for the winning team. Meanwhile, the host Valley View missed a chance to qualify for the quarterfinals with an agonizingly close margin of 37-36 defeat at the hands of Ideal English School.
