  CAN signs Rs 21 million sponsorship deal with Wai-Wai

KATHMANDU, Sept 10: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and Wai-Wai, the instant noodles of CG Foods, inked a sponsorship deal for organizing Nepali U-19 cricket for the next five years.

CG Foods announced a sponsorship amounting to Rs 21 million amidst a signing ceremony in the capital on Monday. Cricket Association of Nepal President Tanka Aangbuhang and Chaudhary Group´s Managing Director Nirvan Chaudhary signed the MoU.

As per the contract, the CAN will invest Rs 1.8 million every year for organizing National U-19 Tournament for boys´ and Rs 900,000 for girls´ tournament.

Likewise, Rs 1.5 million will be spent every year for hosting regional tournaments and on cash prizes as well as international participation of U-19 teams.
CG Foods has been supporting Nepali cricket since 2005 as the sponsor of different age-group tournaments and teams.

"This type of support from corporate sector will energize Nepali cricket fraternity," said CAN general secretary Ashok Nath Pyakuryal. "With such support we can expect Nepali cricket teams to produce more pleasant results like in the Division 4, Malaysia," he added.

CAN President Aangbuhang claimed that cricket is the only team game which could lead to Nepal´s World Cup participation and thanked CG Foods for supporting Nepali Cricket.

Chaudhary Group´s MD Nirvan Chaudhary said that brands like Wai-Wai feel extremely honored to support Nepali cricket. "Cricket is so popular in Nepal that it has been instrumental in fostering national unity," said Chaudhary.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama, who was the chief guest at the signing ceremony, said that the government has plans to invest on developing infrastructure for cricket. He also urged the corporate sector to support other sports along with popular sports like cricket.
