BIRGUNJ, Sept 4: The number of people living with HIV/AIDS in Parsa has estimated around 350. The figure includes the number of HIV/AIDS infected visiting the health centers for blood test and voluntary counseling.
Sweta Sarit, coordinator of district AIDS coordination committee, said that a total of 352 HIV-infected were recorded after their blood test. Of them, 27 are minors. Sarit said that so far 24 persons have died of HIV/AIDS infection in the district.
According to Sarit, the number of HIV/AIDS infected could surpass 500 as the village areas in the district are more prone to HIV infection. Only four persons were the residents of Birgunj Sub-metropolis out of the total 46 new HIV/AIDS infected persons recorded in last year.
Meanwhile, the Community Care Center, Damauli, has run the center in debts for the HIV infected.
Chief at the Center, Shreeram Kandel, said that the Center was bearing a huge amount of debts due to lack of sufficient budget to buy medicines, nutritious foods and other for the people living with HIV/AIDS.
Kandel said that the Center was facing difficulties to feed and arrange the accommodation of 89 people living with HIV/AIDS who come at the district headquarters once a month for counseling.
