KATHMANDU, Aug 25: A meeting of the two main opposition parties-- Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML-- on Saturday decided not to recognize the recently formed Federal Democratic Republican Alliance (FDRA) of the ruling parties.
The meeting between the two parties held in the capital today decided to this effect.
Emerging from the meeting, NC Vice Chairman Ram Chandra Poudel said that they also decided not to participate in the meeting called for September 4 by the alliance.
On Friday, the first meeting of the FDRA had decided to hold an interaction among all the political stakeholders including civil society members in a bid to find a solution to the political stalemate in Kathmaudu on September 4.
Entrusting with the responsibility of taking immediate initiative for forging a consensus among the major political forces to UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Daha, the meeting had also formed a nine-member secretariat for overseeing the regular activities of the alliance and to assist Dahal, the coordinator of the alliance.
