KATHMANDU, Aug 25: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) has urged the agitating folks of Pokhara to resolve the issue through talks regarding the construction of a regional international airport in Pokhara.
The Ministry made such appeal after the leaders of business community, civil society and different organizations in Pokhara started a relay strike demanding to immediately begin the construction works of the regional international airport.
Talking to RSS on Saturday, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation said, "Solidarity expressed by the people of Pokhara for the construction of airport is valid. I urge them to resolve the issue through talks and dialogue by respecting their solidarity."
Likewise, former lawmaker Raj Kaji Gurung also said that the demand for regional international airport is genuine and the process should be initiated soon.
Gurung said that problem was created after the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) made a statement that the airport should be constructed based on the Public Procurement Act.
However, Coordinator of the Airport Construction Concerns Committee Krishna Mohan Shrestha said that the agitating sides rejected to hold talks with the talks team formed by the government saying that it has no rights to take decisions.
The Ministry has formed a team chaired by Joint-Secretary Ranjan Krishna Aryal. Shrestha said, "There is no meaning to sit for talks. Government should begin the process soon."
