  Opium worth crores destroyed

SURKHET, Aug 19: Police on Sunday destroyed 5.3 Kg of opium seized on august 5. The recovered opium worth more than 5 crores in international illegal drug market was set in fire today in the presence of security officials and journalists.

Police had arrested the two women-Susmita Pun and Dilmaya Thapa along with the opium. In the course of investigation, police also arrested a teacher Top Bahadur Wali of Surkhet, Rajena, and Devi Prasad Sharma of Ramghat for their alleged involvement in the opium smuggling.

After destroying the contraband drug, Superintendent of Police in Surkhet, Govindaram Pariyar said that there has been a bigger drug smuggling racket is active in Surketh and other district. "We are doing in-depth investigation. Only after finding the root of the drug racket will help in containing smuggling of the contraband," said he.

Police has said that the contraband drugs are being smuggled out from the rural areas. It has started the police -public joint campaign to break the chain of smuggling.
