BARDIBAS, Aug. 14: Police rescued a girl, who was likely to be trafficked to India, from Matihani Bazaar, an Indian market bordering Mahottari district, on Monday.

A police team from the Border Police Post, Matihani rescued 15-year-old Rina, daughter of Ramsebak Ram of Tulsiyahi VDC, Ward No. 8 in Dhanusha district. She was likely to be sold to India by a youth.

However, the boy accompanying Rina managed to evade the arrest, said the police. Post´s Deputy Superintendent of Police Manoj Kushbaha said that father of Rina had refused to receive his daughter, claiming that she had run away with that person.

Police said that Rina was handed over to Women Rehabilitation Center (WOREC) in the presence of human rights activists and chairperson of Women Rights Defenders Network, Mahottari, Rekha Jha.
