KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Mani Lama of AVM School on Saturday lifted boys´ singles title of Third Krishna Dhoj Memorial Invitational Valley-wide Inter-college and School Table Tennis Tournament. In the final held at National Table Tennis Training Center, Lainchaur, Lama registered 11-8, 17-15 and 11-4 victory over Pradip Roka of Prime College.

In the senior school girls´ section, Purnima Shakya of Jagat Sundar Bonekoti and in junior girls´ Sunita Thapa of Children Garden Academy won the title. Shakya beat fellow Sabita Shrestha 11-5, 11-2 and 11-9 while Thapa defeated schoolmate Grishma Lama 11-5, 11-9 and 11-6. In the senior boys´ singles, Ravi Thapa of Children Garden defeated Romas Maharjan of Dallu Boarding School 11-2, 11-3 and 11-7. In junior category, Awasar Baniya of Modern Indian School beat Saman Thapa of Children Garden 4-11, 11-6, 11-3 and 11-7.

National Pioneer, JP triumph

KATHMANDU: National Pioneer School and J P High School registered victories on Saturday in the central region qualifiers of Coca Cola Cup Inter-school Girls´ National Football Tournament. In the match held at Chyasal ground, National Pioneer thrashed Green Lance School 9-0 with four goals from Prasansa Magar and two goals each from Srijana Ghimire and Sandhya Rai. Binu Magar added another. In another match, J P routed Nepal Rastra School 11-0 as Sunita Khadka scored six goals. Sushmita Shrestha scored three goals while Reshma Tamang and Anjali Theeng added a goal each.

Pakhrin, Shreshta win twin medals

KATHMANDU: Prakash Pakhrin of New Buddha School, Timila Shrestha of Rosebud and Sanjita Prajapati of YSSW Wushu Kuan clinched two gold medals each on Saturday in the First National Junior Wushu Tournament.

Pakhrin won golds in group B boys´ taijiquan and taijijian. Shrestha bagged gold in girls´ group B taousu and chen suma while Prajapati won gold in girls´ taijijian and taijiquan.

In the boys´ sanshou event held at National Sports Council covered hall, Sandesh Tamang advanced to the final in 48 kg category. Tamang will compete against Lila Dhar Parki for the gold medal. In 52 kg category Rajendra Chaudhary from Kailali will compete against Padam Thakulla. In 56 kg category, Kanti Lama and Naresh Chaudhary will compete for the gold. In 60 kg, Amar Sunuwar and Som Bajra Tamang have advanced to the final while Bigyan Mahar and Rajendra Lama have fixed final spot in 65kg.

In the girls´ sanshou, Hira Chaudhary and Sujata Subba have advanced to the final in 48 kg category. In 52 kg category, Renu Tamang and Divya Raut will compete for the gold.

Balkrishna Aduwa wins chess

KATHMANDU: Balkrishna Aduwa from Bode on Saturday lifted the title of Third Madhyapur Thimi Open Chess Tournament with 6.5 points. In the seven round tournament, Aduwa defeated Chandra Mohan Joshi in the last round and pursed Rs 16,000. Ravi Shrestha finished in the second position with equal 6.5 as that of Aduwa but lost in tie breaker. Shrestha received Rs 8,000. Shyam Rajbahak finished third with 5.5 points and received Rs 6,000. Prasan Bhasima and Laxman Manandhar secured fourth and fifth positions respectively. They received Rs 4,500 and Rs 4,000 respectively. Jen Shrestha, Shyam Shrestha, Chandra Mohan Joshi, Herendra Bajracharya and Ujwal Shrestha finished sixth to 10th respectively. the gold.
