KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Nepali Congress (NC) has called its much-awaited Central Working Committee (CWC) for Thursday.
The CWC meeting of the main opposition party that has already taken to the streets is considered crucial as it is expected to chart out the party´s future course of action to bail the country out of the current constitutional and political crises.
“The meeting will discuss mainly the current political situation and the party´s strategy ahead,” said NC Chief Secretary Basanta Kumar Gautam.
The CWC meeting comes close on the heels of the national gathering of the party´s district committee presidents held in Barhabise, Sindhupalchowk. While not ruling out the possibility of resurrecting the Constituent Assembly, the national conclave had given the party leadership its nod to go for fresh parliamentary election to bail the country out of the current deadlock.
A group of 78 of the total 113 former CA members of the party have been lobbying for the revival of the CA, arguing that CA revival could be the most legitimate way to resolve the current deadlock.
They have maintained that it would be legitimate way to make necessary amendments to the Interim Constitution and other election related laws through revived parliament even to go for fresh CA or parliamentary election.
Among other things, the national conclave of the party´s district committee presidents had demanded the party leadership to immediately call Mahasamiti meeting to bring some necessary amendments to the party´s statute.
The CWC meeting is also likely to call Mahasamiti meeting to make the amendment in the statue and also learn views of the party´s village level cadres on resolving the current deadlock.
