  Number of highway accidents on rise

GAJURI, Dhading, Aug 11: The number of highway accidents is increasing day by day due to negligence on the part of drivers and a system of single driver on long route.

A total of 14 minor and major road accidents have taken place on the Prithvi Highway and Dhanding Section along the Tribhuvan Highway since this fiscal year. As many as 30 people have lost their lives in the accidents and over 50 have been injured.

Increasing pressure of vehicles, over speed, damaged segments on the roadways, congested roads, innumerable bends and erotic billboards are other causes of highway accidents, it is learnt.

Similarly, use of outdated vehicles, night trip and a single driver for a long route trip are also responsible for increasing number of road accidents, said Police Inspector Binod Ghimire of Area Police Office Gajuri, Dhading.

Besides, negligence of drivers, lack of proper training for them and a delay in repairing the damaged roads are other causes of road accidents, said Chief of Dhading District Police Office, Gajuri Inspector Hemanta Thapa .

A total of 63 road accidents had taken place in between of Piplamod to Naubise along the Tribhuvan Highway and Naubise and Maywakhola along the Prithvi Highway last fiscal year. As many as 52 people including eight children, eight women and 36 men were killed in the accidents. Similarly, 95 people were critically hurt.

Kosok Nepal is helping rescue the victims during the accident time with the mobilization of volunteers.

The Dhanding District Traffic Police is learnt to have planning to launch a special campaign against road mishap near future keeping in mind increasing cases of highway accident.
