  Kin of Maharjan start week-long relay sit-in protest

KATHMANDU, Aug 10: Kin of Chhori Maiya Maharjan have started a week-long relay sit-in at Basantapur Darbar Square, Kathmandu from Friday demanding formation of a special investigative panel to probe the status of Chhori Maiya, who went missing five months ago.

Sudha Maharjan, daughter of Chhori Maiya said, “We have been compelled to stage a sit in as the government ignored our three-day ultimatum.”

Sudha claimed that the government has ignored the existing “evidences”. “They say we don´t have strong evidence to arrest the prime suspect,” she said. According to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu the investigation into the case is under way.

However, police deny existence of strong evidences to arrest the suspect. The prime suspect in the case Nikki was released on bail.

According to Metropolitan Police Range, around 948 cases of missing women and 398 cases of missing men were registered in the fiscal year 2011/12.
