  Locals duped by Indian women

AMAR KHADKA

ITAHARI, Aug 8: Women of Mrigauliya Village Development Committee (VDC), Morang are being by duped a group of eight Indian women who profess to have panacea for all ills.

Just two days ago, Geeta Bhattarai from Mrigauliya VDC had been admitted to the hospital. She paid Rs 1,000 but it was of no help. “I was easily fooled by them as many others at various places,” said Bhattarai.

Like Bhattarai, Jhaman Kumari from the same VDC was deceived by the Indian women . She had bought their herbs for rheumatism as no progressive symptoms were found after using it. “The curing herbs as they claim are hard to find, therefore, patients like us don´t hesitate to buy them,” said Kumari.

Shairun Khatun, who is one of these sellers, claimed that they have been selling these herbs mostly in the eastern districts of the country for the last three months. “Our group used to sell these herbs in Hetauda before. Now we are mostly centered in Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts and will be returning to India after fifteen days,” said Khatun.

According to Dr Gyanendra from Biratnagar, many people in the villages are being fooled by these herbs easily. He was of the opinion that level of innocence is still high in the villages of which these people take full advantages.

“If their medicines could heal all illnesses why would they be selling in the villages only, they could have extended to the city as well,” said Gyanendra. “These women should be ostracized from the society and punished as well from the government level,” added Gyanendra.
